Chamonix's evening relay race

However, if you just can't wait for the snow to start to fall once again and you need to get to Chamonix then you're in luck, as the region is perfect for a summer holiday too. This is a place that lives for creating and building sporting events that span high-level competition and good old fun with the family. Thanks to the layout of the area, there are lots of great hills and mountains that make it great for long-distance runs like marathons and other such endurance races. However, one thing that really makes Chamonix stand out is that it's a particularly warm part of France this time of year, which means that events can happen at just about any time during the day or night.

The end of season in Chamonix

The spotlight will be on this most famous of ski and mountain resorts all day, but people particularly come to enjoy the afternoon shows, which are on the magnificent site Gaillands, which borders the lake. The programme includes Fall, Fell and Fallen 6, which is a show for all ages to enjoy, making it perfect for the whole family. It's a music event that sees a duo perform with a plethora of odd instruments, including wooden battens and a turntable that has been transformed into a rickety drum machine. It's an odd showing, but children, especially if they're very young, are sure to enjoy all the strange sights and sounds.

Street theatre is next in the form of My Granary Life, which is aimed at families who have children aged eight or more. The play tells the story of Gaetan Lecroteux, who is the eldest son of a famous manufacturer, and he is a goofy and cheerful philosopher.

Chamonix: A feast of events

This part of the French Alps is perhaps the most famous place in the world to go for a snowsports holiday and it's with good reason that people return to its pistes time and time again. Chamonix is basically the home of skiing and snowboarding events; during the winter season it's overrun with people who look to race against each other in one of its famed competitions. The sheer range of different events is a keen draw to those who love skiing and snowboarding, even families love coming here, as there are competitions in which children can compete, or team up with their parents. However, you don't have to feel like you're obligated to take part, as spectators are welcome to watch any of the sports events, due to the fact that they take place in outdoor spaces.

Naturally, it isn't all about extreme sports events that lovers of the X-games will flock to see, as the region is also famous for mountaineering. These events are a great way to improve your knowledge, or learn a new skill in a safe and technical environment. Each of these little expeditions is supervised by high mountain guides or FFCAM initiators, according to Chamonix.com.

Teresa's photo walks with a meal in Chamonix

Before you head off you can look forward to meeting the chef who will be making your meal, the amazing Mickey Bourdillat in her kitchen at the Hotel Mont Blanc. This will be good if there are any people in your group who might have allergies, getting them straight to the chef is always better to avoid any miscommunication! After this you'll be off on your discovery tour, to see Chamonix a little differently than the average tourist. You'll be able to see some sights that not everybody will get to appreciate, plus capture it to take home for yourself.

This will make for an excellent adventure expedition during your skiing holiday, or else a lovely gift for a photographer friend. The activity itself takes around three to three and a half hours, depending on which route Teresa chooses for you.

Run and Skate 2016 in Chamonix

This race combines two major disciplines of endurance sport, cross-country skiing and a running trail race. Taking place in Chamonix on 6th March, this race is not for the faint-hearted as the conditions will be tough, but that's what makes this race all the more rewarding. Having been in Chamonix for the past few seasons, this year, the event organisers have decided to shake up the conditions of the competition with new distances and a new race.

Among the different categories, there will be an individual event, which will see competitors battle against each other in a 14 km cross-country skiing race that also includes 11km of trail running. A similar distance and set up will be in place for a team race, with one participant taking on the cross-country skiing and the other team member doing the running. The new event for this year is the Run and Skate Discovery, which will see competitors enjoy 6 km of nordic skiing and finish with a 4.5 km run on the snow.
