Snowstorm - The Snow must go on

St. Anton am Arlberg belongs to women! With the pampering weeks (from January 5th to 26th) all women can get special offers and discounts in bars, restaurants or spas. On January 12th and 13th two Ski World Cup women's races (downhill and super-g) were supposed to take place in St. Anton but they were unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather.
The White Thrill
It’s now a tradition in St. Anton am Arlberg…when the ski resort closes in late April, then the White Thrill (and the White Thrill Party) can begin! More than 500 winter sports enthusiasts compete and take on the challenge. Skiers, snowboarders and telemark skiers try to push their limits and finish this bumpy ski race (9km and a vertical drop of 1.350m). It’s definitely a great show to watch! The most difficult (and famous) part of the race is called “Pain Mountain”, a 150m ascent. This race is actually the first part of the alpine-triathlon "Arlberg Eagle". A half marathon and a bike race take place a bit later in summer. Children and young people have the opportunity to participate in a race called the "Mini White Thrill".
The 2017 Arlberg Eagle competition kicks off at the end of April with The White Thrill on April 22nd. The 9km ski race is the first competition of the challenging triathlon, and it gives participants the chance to tame the "monster" Valluga run in St Anton. The 9km race route travels from Valluga to Valfagehrjoch, Ulmerhutte and Moos before arriving back in St Anton. At the end of the race, participants will be given a finishing present and are invited to a pasta party to celebrate the event.
Of course, the White Thrill event is only the first of three - and those taking part in the entire Arlberg Eagle competition will need to head back to St Anton in the summer for the other two legs of the event.
The second part is a half marathon that will take place on July 22nd. The running route sets off from the town hall in St Anton, before heading on to Nasserein along the disused railway line, along the north bank of the River Rosanna to Schnann and then back to St Anton.
Finally, the three-part event ends on August 19th, with a 41 km mountain bike race. This difficult race through the mountains around St Anton definitely puts participants' strength to the test and includes a 1,622 difference in altitude.
The August bicycle ride ends with the winner of the day being announced, as well as the overall winner of the Arlberg Eagle challenge. In addition to the big prizes, anyone who accomplishes all three competitions in a single calendar year earns the right to call themselves an Arlberg Eagle and receives a prize.
For those not quite ready for the Eagle competition, there's also the Arlberg Marmot. This unique event is the little brother of the legendary Eagle race and gives less experienced athletes a chance to challenge themselves. Like the Eagle, the Marmot combines three competitions - the White Thrill, an 8km Fit and Fun Run, and the 20km Arlberg Bike Classic.
From delicious food to fabulous music, the American South knows how to have a good time - and the city of New Orleans in Louisiana is no exception.
New Orleans is famous for its party atmosphere, with Bourbon Street bars, casinos, night clubs and plenty of live music. There's also Mardi Gras, the city's Shrove Tuesday event that goes well beyond frying up a few pancakes at home.
With so much to love about New Orleans, it's easy to see why St Anton am Arlberg has decided to host three days of events based on the city. During the weekend of April 7th to 9th, the New Orleans meets Snow Festival will bring a dash of southern flair to the Alpine resort.
For three days, the town will be brimming with cool funk and blues rhythms, with live concerts on the village streets and in many local establishments. A typical New Orleans marching band will wind through the Tyrolean streets, and there will even be New Orleans inspired events up on the mountain.
This will be the fourth year that the event has come to St Anton, and it is known for enticing the Austrian jazz elite, so you're sure to enjoy plenty of good music throughout the event - and the bourbon will probably be flowing too.
A number of venues will be hosting concerts and other New Orleans-style events throughout the weekend, including the Rendl Beach Bar, the Hotel Anton-Plaza, the Galzig Bistro Bar and the Hotel Alte Post. Even the cable car stations will have bands playing to keep skiers and snowboarders in the southern spirit.
One not-to-miss event in this year's line-up will be the Blues Night on Saturday evening at the World Championship Hall. Musical guests will include the Markus Linder Band and Vasti Jackson. Doors open at 7 pm and the music will begin at 8 pm. Entry will be free of charge, and you'll be able to order a range of southern style dishes to enjoy with the tunes.
