Cervinia, an Italian resort that’s ideal for families
Located in northwest Italy in the Aosta Valley, Cervinia has it all. Its ski area covers no fewer than 150 kilometres of runs, and spans territory in two countries: Italy and Switzerland.
A varied and extensive ski area
Situated in the heart of the mountains at an altitude of around 2000 metres, this resort is one of the largest in Italy. There’s lots on offer for skiers: ski gear shops and ski hire outlets, lessons for all abilities, 20 ski lifts and 150 kilometres of runs, half of which are equipped with snow cannons.
If you want to go further, you can even access the adjacent ski areas of Valtournenche and Zermatt (both of which are in Switzerland) and enjoy more than 300 kilometres of runs.
Good to know: guaranteed snow cover
Thanks to its high altitude, the ski area offers excellent snow cover and even allows for summertime skiing on 15-20 kilometres of runs.
A family-friendly resort
As well as having access to all the resort’s facilities, which make for good skiing for both adults and children (lessons, ski lifts, adapted runs and ski hire), families get added benefits during their stay. With free ski passes for children under the age of 8, and 3 baby ski areas, there’s something for everyone.
What’s there to do in Cervinia?
Visitors have access to a range of other activities:
•A skicross route;
• A vast snowpark;
• More than 10 kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks within the ski area;
• An ice karting circuit, which is also open after dark;
• Frozen waterfalls, and plenty more.
Lying between Italy and Switzerland, this sun-drenched resort charms its visitors with its outstanding slopes and ideal weather conditions. So hurry over to Cervinia to enjoy the snow, and visit one of our Skiset shops at the foot of the slopes to hire your kit.
Set against the backdrop of the Matterhorn, Breuil-Cervinia promises a skiing holiday amid picture postcard perfect scenery. You’re guaranteed to find relaxation, thrills and spectacular panoramas when you follow our 10 must-do attractions in Cervinia.
One must-do activity in Breuil-Cervinia is to ski on a glacier. Plateau Rosà at an altitude of 3,480 m and the slopes of Zermatt's Theodul Glacier at 3,883 m altitude are both snow-sure.
Still on the Swiss side, in the upper reaches of Breuil-Cervinia, enjoy an unmissable 360° view of the Alps from the panoramic platform. The programme includes: a breathtaking view of nearly 40 peaks that rise to over 4,000 m altitude, as well as 14 glaciers.
Throughout the season, you can book a table at one of the high mountain restaurants before skiing back down to the resort under the stars. These tours are usually organised when there is a full moon and a guide will accompany you.
Head to the entrance of the resort to take a few spins in a snow kart: fun sports action to share with family (children aged 6 years and older) or friends.
To give your holiday the feel of an Arctic adventure, why not try dog sledding through the untouched areas of the ski resort.
We couldn’t mention the 10 must-do activities in Breuil-Cervinia without suggesting you enjoy the slopes at a more leisurely Italian pace. In between descents of the wonderful ski area, take a day off to enjoy lunch at a sunny terrace restaurant before an afternoon snooze on a sun lounger.

As a reminder, Snowboard Cross is a race where a group of snowboarders compete at once. It’s not uncommon to witness two competitors jostling elbow to elbow to get ahead, or to see a snowboarder fall after taking one risk too many. To watch these legendary races, get yourself to slope 26 of the Plan Maison zone, the home of snowboarding in Cervinia. Prepare to be amazed after every starting signal!
Plan Maison: for pros and amateurs alike
While the competition on 20 and 21 December is a chance to admire the prowess of the top male and female snowboarders, you can also take advantage of your stay in Cervinia for the Snowboard Cross World Cup to check out the resort’s high-quality snowboarding installations. Head to the Indian Park of Plan Maison (located at over 2600 meters), an area measuring more than one kilometre long and 200 meters wide. It’s here that snowboarders of all levels will find the perfect playground to practise their freestyle. In the upper zone, there are three table-tops and two kickers. Lower down, rails, boxes and big air jumps make up the eleven structures provided for jibbing enthusiasts.
Worth knowing: more snow sports fun to be had in Zermatt
If Cervinia’s Indian Park doesn’t give you your hit of snowboarding thrills, it’s worth knowing that it’s very easy to get to the Zermatt ski area, just 15 minutes away. Why not extend your snowboarding stay to check out the Gravity Park and its superpipe.
On 20 and 21 December, the world’s best male and female snowboarders will take to the slopes of Cervinia for a Snowboard Cross World Cup event. Make the most of this opportunity to witness the high-octane races, before heading to Indian Park to try out its snowboarding installations.
Mountain films are full of emotions and adventures
The best (mountain) filmmakers will be presenting their own creations that will make you -for sure – escape from your daily routine! Ready to simply be amazed by incredible landscapes and crazy adventures? Skiers and mountaineers are basically exploring summits on the other side of the world, pushing their boundaries and meeting local populations…. Just to give you an overview on what’s coming at the Cine Mountain festival.
Good to know: “Oscar of the Oscars”, the best mountain film of the year
This festival belongs to the IAMF (International Alliance for Mountain Film) and actually puts together some of the winning films of other festivals organized in partner cities throughout the year. One of them will be awarded and will get the “Oscar of the Oscars”, basically meaning that it has been chosen as the best mountain film of the year.
Cine Mountain Festival: more than just a film festival
A mountain environment is actually pretty hard to describe being both massive and fragile at the same time. One film cannot describe it all and the organizing committee got it well. They have worked on a program combining film projections and opportunities to share stories and experiences. On August 6th, you’ll get the chance to meet the writer and mountaineer Erri de Luca, the famous mountaineer Nives Meroi and the physicist Fabio Truc. A discussion called “Mountains of Silence” will be held and they’ll explain how important mountains are in their lives and how they feel about it. On August 8th, climate change will be discussed by several speakers including the explorer Alex Bellini and the Italian mountaineer Fausto de Stefani.
The famous scientist Andrea Bernagozzi will be also speaking during the festival about the moon and the connections between human beings and the Earth’s natural satellite. These events will be open to the public (local and holidaymakers) so that everyone can celebrate our planet and mountains the way they want. Don’t hesitate to take part in trekking tours or to go hiking and/or skiing to experience the Aosta valley (yes, skiing is also a summer activity in Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche).
Adventures will be definitely put in the spotlight during your stay in Cervinia. Don’t hesitate to explore this incredible area and enjoy your summer holiday to the fullest!
Local Heritage
Cervinia was not always a renowned ski resort, but was strongly influenced by pastoral life in the past. You can still experience this today by visiting for example the museum called "Maison de l'Alpage" in the neighboring town of Valtournenche. You will get a great overview of the local heritage and traditions. Do you also want to know more about the ski resort’s history? You’ll get this opportunity by visiting the Matterhorn alpine guide museum. The Plateau Rosa (3500m) is also a must! You will find the highest museum in Europe located in an old cable car station and experience a journey back in time learning more about the ski resort’s history (pictures, videos and objects from that period of time will be shown).
Late season skiing
You’ll get the chance to go skiing until May in Cervinia. Don’t worry; you’ll not get bored at all even off the slopes. Lots of different events are organized throughout the whole ski season. Would you like to try out snow-volleyball? Don’t miss the chance to do so on March 16th; you’ll definitely spend a nice day! On April 6th a 22 km race will be held on the longest slope of the ski area called “Dame Blanche”. It will be a very challenging race with 2000 meters high difference! You can all participate but training before racing is definitely a good idea.
Good to know: let's celebrate one last time (before summer)!
A last event is required if you want to finish the ski season in a nice way…A swimsuit pageant (with your skis on) awaits you, as well as a nice party.
Tradition, sporting events and great skiing ... you will enjoy your skiing holiday in Cervinia to the fullest!
