Abriès, a wild ski resort

Abriès is a small traditional village at an altitude of 1,550 meters in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes in the Queyras Regional Natural Park. A place suitable for an authentic winter vacation.

In Abriès, larch forests mix with snowfields to offer you 21 km of slopes for all levels, taking you up to an altitude of 2,450 meters to the summit Gilly. In addition to alpine skiing, the resort has its reputation because of the exceptional environment it offers for ski touring. Several trails lead to the emblematic peaks of the Queyras: the Pas de la Cula, the Gardiole de l'Alp, the Béal Traversier and the Pic de Ségure. Cross-country and classic skiers will be delighted with the 54 km of trails specially dedicated to them. The village provides everything necessary for a successful stay. In fact, there is everything from the French ski school Haut Guil to the shuttle bus Escartons that allows you to go from village to village to explore the ski area of Aiguilles, Chateau-Ville-Vieille, Arvieux, Saint-Véran, Molines and Ceillac and vary the delights.

Tranquility in the heart of the Queyras

It is nice to stroll through the alleys of this typical village, located at the confluence of the Bouchet and Guil streams. After the ski area closes, you will appreciate the tranquility of Abriès. Ideal for a family vacation, the stores in the village offer you the opportunity to do your shopping and collect souvenirs from your vacation. Bars and restaurants invite you to enjoy a cozy and cheerful meal in the evening.

As for accommodation, everything is possible as Abriès has two hotels, a residence "Les Balcons du Viso", vacation homes, furnished accommodation and vacation centers. A wellness and aqua area will delight all lovers of après-ski who want to relax, as well as non-skiers.

Encounter with history and traditions

A stay in Abriès will immerse you in the rich history of this region, starting with the traditional architecture of the village houses. Wood will also play a role, as numerous craftsmen still work with this material to make furniture, decorative objects and toys.

In addition, the Queyras is a region of livestock, and you will find the fragrant taste of the alpine meadows in the cheeses of local producers and enjoy the sausages and meats raised in the open air at the tables of Abriès.

Worth knowing: go in search of sundials. The Queyras is a sun-drenched land, and that's why no fewer than 70 sundials have blossomed on the walls of its villages. You will find some fine examples in Abriès and, if you wish, you can also discover other works in the surrounding communes.
